I remember

October 22, 2026

I remember when the web was fun. It was this new thing. People were trying new things all the time. There was no google, there was barely a yahoo. Search engines existed but you had to look for things yourself. You found pages by clicking links and exploring. Your site got discovered because someone else linked to you. Maybe your site had a niche community that allowed it into a webring. Most sites were just curiosities.

One such site I remember was interactive in a way I had never seen a website be interactive. I felt like Harry Potter on his first trip to Diagon Alley, except, Harry Potter didn’t exist yet.

One page on this site was really interesting. It wrote itself while you watched. It wasn’t typing, it was cursive, and it drew the letters on the screen. If you stopped reading the story, it would start to drift and doodle and then come back to writing as soon as you noticed it wasn’t writing.

There is no point to this. Just a novelty, just for fun. This is what the web was before google. It was just fun.
